Hello, I'm Katy - mum to Alfie (age 5) and Olivia (age 2). Music and Rhyme Time was founded by my two friends Judi and Kate back in 2007. I started attending classes with Alfie in 2015 when he was 5 months old and he continued until he went to preschool. I then returned to classes with Olivia in 2018 when she was a similar age.
I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught in Dartford for over 10 years. During this time I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of children across different age ranges and with different, and sometimes complex, needs. I really enjoyed this - seeing children develop, helping them to progress and achieve their potential and working with families too.
Recently (2019) I decided to take a break from teaching and that's how I came to be running Music and Rhyme Time! I'm also currently studying for a qualification in mental health awareness.
I really look forward to meeting lovely new families at our classes and singing with you!
Hi I’m Kate, mum to three; Phoebe 19, Sam 17 and Ben 14. Music and Rhyme Time was launched in 2007 as a result of two stay at home mums chatting about what they could do to work within the community whilst raising the children.
Neighbours to begin with, my 'partner in rhyme' Judi and I became good friends.
The night before the initial launch the famous 'but I can’t sing' moment became ingrained in what we do and how we teach at music and rhyme; YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SING! But you DO have to sing to your child.
My passion for working with the youngest members of our community and their families has led me to complete numerous qualifications in child care including a 2.1 in Early Years. I have been lucky to work with lots of lovely families including children with complex needs who have taught me a lot and encouraged me to undertake further courses, for example, portage and sign language.
Currently I work for the Kent association for the blind, an enabling service supporting people in our community living with deaf blindness. I also continue to study whilst working for LSEC as an assessor in childcare.
I am taking a step back from Music and Rhyme Time for the time being while I focus on my other job on a full time basis but leaving you all in Katy's capable hands!
